The full name of RK Narayan is Rasipuram Krishnaswamy Iyer Narayanaswami Is one of India’s best-known English language novelists. He was born on October 10, 1906, in Madras now in Chennai of India. His father was Krishnaswamy Iyer and his mother was Gnanambai. He studied for eight years at Lutheran Mission School, and for a short period at CRC High School.
When his father was appointed headmaster of the maharaja’s school in Mysore, RK Narayan moved to Mysore, and studied at his father’s School, and later on, he was also educated at maharaja’s college.
He obtained his bachelor’s degree at the University of Mysore. He resolved to write fiction in English and take it as his career. He tried to tell stories of the common people and their simple life in a changing world. His style of writing was simple and witty. His works of fiction include a series of books about people and their interactions in an imaginary town in India called Malgudi.
Leela’s Friend is one of Narayan’s most popular short stories from the collection of Malgudi Days in 1958. In his work as the guide, I was selected for the national prize of the Indian literacy Academy. In his writing career, he received many awards and honors.

Mr. Shiv Shankar was standing in the front verandah of his house, brooding over the servant problem. At the time Siddha was hanging about the gate of Mr. Shiv Shankar asking for a job. Siddha was appointed as a servant and was paid rupees a month for different kinds of household work and looking after Leela, the little girl of Mr. Shiv Shankar.
Siddha became the special friend of Mr. Shiv Shankar’s five years old little daughter, Leela. Siddharth told her great stories, in her heart with his magical imagination power. day by day Leela clung closer To Siddha.
One evening Siddha and Leela went out to buy sugar. They came back home and Leela’s mother noticed that Leela’s gold chain had been missing. mother assumed that she stole the chain and threatened him with the police. should vanish into the night in fear.
Mr. Shiv Shankar came home and when he came to know the matter, he directly went to the police station and lodged a complaint. Siddha was caught by the police and they sent him to the lock-up.
A few days later Leela’s mother found out about the change in the Tamarind pot in the kitchen. Mr. Shiv Shankar came home and he heard the matter from his wife. Mr. Shiv Shankar said that he would inform the Inspector the next day, but they could not keep a criminal like him in the house.
