About The Author of The Orphan Girl:
Henry Louis Vivian Derozio was born on 10th april 1809 to a portugues-Indian Father and an English Mother and grew up with four siblings. He lived at Entally Padmapukur in kolkata. His Father’s name was Francis Derozio.
Derozio was generally considered an Anglo-Indian, being of mixed portuguese descent, but he was fired by patriotic spirits for his native Bengal, and considered himself Indian. Derozio was perhaps the first nationalist poet of modern India. In his poem To India-My Native land he wrote many patriotic images of the word there. He wrote wonderful poems in English before his untimely death of which The Fakir of Danghira, was one of the most important landmarks in the history of patriotic poetry in India.
Henry Louis Vivian Derozio or Derozio died at an early age of 22 on 26th December in 1831 in Calcutta That is Kolkata now. His body was buried in south park Cemetery of kolkata.

হেনরি লুই ভিভিয়ান ডিরোজিও 1809 সালের 10 এপ্রিল একজন পর্তুগিজ-ভারতীয় পিতা এবং একজন ইংরেজ মায়ের কাছে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন এবং চার ভাইবোনের সাথে বেড়ে ওঠেন। তিনি কলকাতার এন্টালি পদ্মপুকুরে থাকতেন। তার পিতার নাম ছিল ফ্রান্সিস ডিরোজিও।
ডিরোজিওকে সাধারণত অ্যাংলো-ইন্ডিয়ান হিসাবে বিবেচনা করা হত, মিশ্র পর্তুগিজ বংশোদ্ভূত, কিন্তু তিনি তার জন্মভূমি বাংলার জন্য দেশপ্রেমিক আত্মার দ্বারা বহিষ্কৃত হন এবং নিজেকে ভারতীয় বলে মনে করতেন। ডিরোজিও সম্ভবত আধুনিক ভারতের প্রথম জাতীয়তাবাদী কবি। তাঁর ভারত-মাই নেটিভ ল্যান্ড কবিতায় তিনি সেখানে শব্দের অনেক দেশাত্মবোধক চিত্র লিখেছেন। তিনি তার অকাল মৃত্যুর আগে ইংরেজিতে চমৎকার কবিতা লিখেছিলেন যার মধ্যে দ্য ফকির অফ ডাঙ্গিরা ছিল ভারতের দেশপ্রেমিক কবিতার ইতিহাসে অন্যতম গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ল্যান্ডমার্ক।
হেনরি লুই ভিভিয়ান ডিরোজিও বা ডিরোজিও 22 বছর বয়সে 1831 সালের 26 ডিসেম্বর কলকাতায় মারা যান যা এখন কলকাতা। তাঁর মৃতদেহ কলকাতার সাউথ পার্ক কবরস্থানে দাফন করা হয়।
Substance of the poem The Orphan Girl
Henry Louis Vivian Derozio war reared himself in a society which was completely spread with superstition. The contemporary time of derozio, Bengal’s fragile society was ruling with gothic and hinduism religious traditions. Derozio cordially supported the governor general lord wiliam bentick and Raja Rammohan Roy on the abolition of the cruel ritual that is called sati. Derozio was largely moved by the in humanitarian slavery in Bengal. In a poem named Orphan Girl he voiced concern over the uncertain fate of an orphan girl. In the context of India Derozio’s poem on slavery was significance with inherent importance.
হেনরি লুই ভিভিয়ান ডিরোজিও নিজেকে এমন একটি সমাজে লালন-পালন করেছিলেন যা সম্পূর্ণরূপে কুসংস্কারে ছড়িয়ে পড়েছিল। ডিরোজিওর সমসাময়িক সময়, বাংলার ভঙ্গুর সমাজ গথিক এবং হিন্দু ধর্মের ধর্মীয় ঐতিহ্যের সাথে শাসন করছিল। সতীদাহ নামক নিষ্ঠুর প্রথা বাতিলের বিষয়ে ডিরোজিও গভর্নর জেনারেল লর্ড উইলিয়াম বেন্টিক এবং রাজা রামমোহন রায়কে আন্তরিকভাবে সমর্থন করেছিলেন। ডিরোজিও মূলত বাংলার মানবিক দাসত্ব দ্বারা প্রভাবিত হয়েছিল। অরফান গার্ল নামের একটি কবিতায় তিনি এতিম মেয়ের অনিশ্চিত ভাগ্য নিয়ে উদ্বেগ প্রকাশ করেছেন। ভারতের প্রেক্ষাপটে ডিরোজিওর দাসত্বের কবিতাটি অন্তর্নিহিত গুরুত্বের সাথে তাৎপর্যপূর্ণ ছিল।
The Orphan Girl who was still young and beautiful but the poet Derozio suggested that the girl had received much bad luck or misfortune in this unpitying world.
অনাথ মেয়েটি যে তখনও অল্পবয়সী এবং সুন্দর ছিল কিন্তু কবি ডিরোজিও পরামর্শ দিয়েছিলেন যে মেয়েটি এই নির্মম পৃথিবীতে অনেক দুর্ভাগ্য বা দুর্ভাগ্য পেয়েছে।
The poet Derozio narrates the orphan girl’s physical features as her beautiful appearance. Her hair was black as a raven’s wing, her cheek was as tulip’s hue, her voice was soft as melodious as the night wind sings. Her brow was as beautiful as a moonbeam fair.
কবি ডিরোজিও অনাথ মেয়েটির শারীরিক বৈশিষ্ট্যকে তার সুন্দর চেহারা বলে বর্ণনা করেছেন। তার চুল ছিল দাঁড়কাকের ডানার মতো কালো, তার গাল ছিল টিউলিপের রঙের মতো, তার কণ্ঠ ছিল রাতের বাতাসের গানের মতো সুরেলা। তার ভ্রুটি ছিল চাঁদনীর মেলার মত সুন্দর।
The orphan Girl’s soldier father was faced death in a battlefield by the shock, the shout and scar, of the war. Then her brave father gained a glorious grave, but it was quite a triple reward to his heroic bravery. The widow mother of the girl could not bear the pathetic condition of her soldier husband’s demise. The broken heart widow-wife passed away and left the misfortune girl parrentless in the merciless world.
এতিম মেয়েটির সৈনিক পিতা যুদ্ধের ধাক্কা, চিৎকার এবং দাগ দ্বারা যুদ্ধক্ষেত্রে মৃত্যুর মুখোমুখি হয়েছিল। তারপরে তার সাহসী বাবা একটি গৌরবময় কবর অর্জন করেছিলেন, তবে এটি তার বীরত্বপূর্ণ সাহসিকতার জন্য বেশ ট্রিপল পুরষ্কার ছিল। মেয়েটির বিধবা মা তার সৈনিক স্বামীর মৃত্যুর করুণ অবস্থা সইতে পারেননি। ভগ্নহৃদয় বিধবা স্ত্রী পরলোক গমন করে হতভাগ্য কন্যাকে রেখে গেলেন নির্দয় পৃথিবীতে।
In the second stanza of the poem he extends to illustrate that The Orphan girl became then parentless even though she had not any friend on that cold, bleak earth to give her shelter, a secure home and hearth or warmth. Therefore she had to go through the dreary desert alone of that pitiless world. In her solo journey she was not allowed to stray from the path of ritual virtue either the world will scorn and its scorn could have been slay her. But alas! Her shame could have been enough to wring her breast with the weight of sorrow and feeling of oppressed guilt. But oh! It was coldly cruel to wound the bosom whose blood must gush unbound. There is no tear as bright as the tear that flows from erring woman’s unpitted woes. The honored man who shelters an orphan from sorrow and shame, his name will be blessed forever.
কবিতার দ্বিতীয় স্তবকটিতে তিনি ব্যাখ্যা করেছেন যে মেয়েটি তখন পিতামাতাহীন হয়ে পড়েছিল যদিও সেই শীতল, অন্ধকার পৃথিবীতে তার আশ্রয়, একটি নিরাপদ ঘর এবং চুলা বা উষ্ণতা দেওয়ার জন্য তার কোনও বন্ধু ছিল না। তাই তাকে নির্মম পৃথিবীর নির্জন মরুভূমির মধ্য দিয়ে যেতে হয়েছিল। তার একক যাত্রায় তাকে আচার-অনুষ্ঠানের পথ থেকে বিচ্যুত হতে দেওয়া হয়নি, হয় বিশ্ব ঘৃণা করবে এবং তার ঘৃণা তাকে হত্যা করতে পারে। কিন্তু হায়! দুঃখের ভার এবং নিপীড়িত অপরাধবোধের ভার দিয়ে তার স্তন মুড়িয়ে দেওয়ার জন্য তার লজ্জা যথেষ্ট হতে পারে। কিন্তু ওহ! যার বক্ষকে ক্ষতবিক্ষত করা খুব নিষ্ঠুর ছিল যার রক্ত অবিরাম প্রবাহিত হতে হবে। ভুলভ্রান্তিহীন নারীর অব্যক্ত দুঃখ থেকে যে অশ্রু প্রবাহিত হয় তার মতো উজ্জ্বল অশ্রু আর নেই। যে সম্মানিত ব্যক্তি এতিমকে দুঃখ ও লজ্জা থেকে আশ্রয় দেয়, তার নাম চিরকাল ধন্য হবে।
