Meeting At Night Summary;

with a view to meet his beloved secretly at a secluded farm at night. The lover undertakes an arduous journey (কষ্টকর যাত্রা). First on the sea by boat and then on the land. The lover starts his journey across the sea when the moon has just arisen. The yellow half-moon looks large and low. The shadowy moonlight guides him on his journey.

As his boat moves forward, the waves of the calm sea seem to leap (লাফানো) in ringlets of bright fire and prevent the lover’s smooth passage (মসৃণ উত্তরণ). Rowing hard on the agitated sea (উত্তেজিত সমুদ্র), the lover, at last, arrives at a cove and anchors his boat on the slushy sand.

He then walks a mile on the warm beach, enjoying the pleasant smell (মনোরম গন্ধ) of saline water (লবণাক্ত জল) coming from the bay   (উপসাগর). He crosses three fields one after another and finally comes to a farmhouse (খামার) where his beloved lives.

He gives a gentle tap (মৃদু টোকা) at the windowpane (জানালার পাল্লা) to indicate his arrival and his beloved response by lighting a match inside. Then comes the supreme moment for what the poet made the journey. The lovers meet each other rapturously and are locked in a warm embrace. Their heartbeats sound louder than their soft voice.
